About the Youth Department

The society that our youth and children exist in today is at best unfriendly. At its worst, it is a godless culmination of everything that reeks of sin and depravity. Our governments promote murder through abortion, they steal the rights of parents to determine the best ways to rear their children, and have created a school system that does not teach morality or virtue. So if you have ignored the changing of the times and still believe that this world is sympathetic to those who believe in God, think again.

It is the objective of the Youth Department of the Triumphant Church of Jesus Christ, to encourage the children and youth of today to defend and promote their faith in Jesus Christ while living to please the Lord. Under the leadership Evangelist Newton Matthews, the CEO of the Youth Department, the youths' vision is to take the Rexdale community by storm. First Sundays are designated as Youth Sundays and youth officers get the opportunity to facilitate the day's worship. It is also the day when the youth choir, known as High Praises, minister to the church in songs.

Over the years the High Praises youth choir has grown in strength and anointing and has been blessed of the Lord to minister in the United States and on several stages in Canada. They have opened for Hezekiah Walker and the Love Fellowship Choir and are regularly sought after to minister at concerts and conventions across the city. Through the ministry of music, the High Praise choir has managed to unite the youths from the various churches across the city.

The choir members are also involved in several community outreaches. On fourth Sundays members of the choir visit the Kinark-Syl Apps Youth Detention Centre in Oakville, Ontario, to provide spiritual counseling and leadership for young people who are incarcerated for various crimes. Ministry takes the form of singing, worship, dramatizations and the spoken word.

For the last two years the choir has been opening the year with a New Year, New Revelation concert on the first Saturday of every year. This is a free concert featuring other choirs from across the city and the only admission requirement is a non-perishable food item. These items are then boxed and shipped to the Daily Bread Food Bank in Toronto.

Other youth sponsored activities include
a) A yearly visit to Chucky Cheese for the kids at Christmas time
b) A Halloween alternative for the kids called Kids Night Out
c) Supplying the roses and flowers on Mothers'/Fathers' Days
d) Annual Track and Field & Youth Jam Picnic
e) A Back to School Bash school supplies are given away.

The highlight of the Youth Department is in the Annual Youth Convention: a four day event in the early Spring featuring High Praises and several anointed guest preachers. Over the years God has bountifully blessed this event and many of the young people received the baptism of the Holy Ghost especially at this time of the year. Anticipation is usually high and the expectations are always great and many other young people from other churches choose this time of the year to feast from the Lord.

The presence of the Youth Department is seen and felt in our church. Our pastor makes sure they are allowed to grow without fear of criticism and failure and encourages them at every opportunity. He often reminds them that to have 'status' is to be a child of God.

Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. Galatians 5:1

Every Christian today should preserve this word in their hearts, but especially the youth. They are young today, but not for always. Contact the youth at youth@tcjc.org
