About the Pastor
Elder Evon St. Aubin Nunes was born and raised in a strict but exceptionally
loving Christian home in Manchester, Jamaica, and is the first of
8 children. His mother, a strong disciplinarian and faithful Missionary
at Belfield Pentecostal Church, ensured her children attended church.
Pastor's early home and church life became the solid foundation
for the future that God had in store for him.
After completing his early education, Pastor Nunes
became a beloved teacher and served for 3 years at the Bombay Public
School in Manchester, Jamaica. During this time, he also established
and led the 1st female scouting group in Bombay, Manchester, and
the group went on to receive several honours in the national competitions.
These experiences were an indication of the strong leadership skills
he would bring to his pastoral role and other areas of his life.
In May, 1967 Elder Nunes migrated to Toronto, Canada
at 21 years of age and, except for a few distant cousins, he was
stranger in a strange land. In the fall of the following year, Evon
Nunes was baptized in Jesus' name at the Mt. Oliver Pentecostal
Church in Toronto, and later received the precious infilling of
the Holy Spirit. From early in his new life with Christ, he was
active in the church.
He served
as a Youth President for 18 years, was a faithful choir member,
church administrator, and served as the General Secretary of the
West Indian Canadian International Fellowship.
In November of 1969, Pastor married his sweetheart
from home, the lovely Sonia Cockett. They were blessed with four
children: Loraine, Andrew, Leisa and Tanya, and recently their first
granddaughter, Kaylah Jordyn. He has worked long and hard to provide
for his family and the schooling of his children and has been employed
by the same company for almost 36 years. He is currently the Production
Manager.
Pastor Nunes is a great advocate of education and
a champion of the institutions of marriage and family. His dynamic
teachings in these areas are life-altering and inspiring. In Ephesians
4:11, the Apostle Paul states that God, "gave some, apostles;
and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and
teachers"). This loving, dedicated man of God is truly a gift
to the Triumphant family in particular and to the Kingdom of God
in general. We are blessed to have such a man of God as our pastor.
